Lesser Three Gorges

Lesser Three Gorges The Daning River, a large tributary of the Yangtze, is where you’ll find the Lesser Three Gorges. You can enter at Wushan, 300 miles northeast of Chongqing or 130 miles upriver from Yichang. The Daning is 155 miles (250 km) long and, although not very wide, it is one of the most beautiful sights in China. It is this natural beauty and the accompanying peace and quiet that compel so many tourists to visit the Lesser Three Gorges.

A river cruise along the Daning, viewing the Longmen, Bawu and Dicui Gorges, will take you north and south for approximately 31 miles. During your cruise, you’ll see waterfalls, the Ancient Plank Road, mineral formations and stalactites. The emerald green waters of the Daning will provide a tranquil break from the hustle and bustle of China’s cities. Make sure you have your camera for the many photo opportunities that will present themselves along the way. As the Lesser Three Gorges are home to one of China’s most important nature preserves, you are likely to see monkeys, Mandarin ducks, rare plants and, if you’re lucky, rare fish.

As you wind up your visit to the Lesser Three Gorges, you have some lodging options as well as additional travel opportunities. Make a stop at any of the river’s newly built resorts, or change ships to travel upstream, as you choose.
